Face shapes
Oblong face shape
Noticeably longer than wide, with a fairly even width from forehead to jaw and long, straight cheeks.
What an oblong face is
Also called rectangular: the face is clearly longer than it is wide and the sides are relatively straight. Forehead, cheekbones and jaw are close in width, and the chin is usually rounded or slightly flat.
How to tell
- Length is well over one and a half times the width.
- The three widths — forehead, cheeks, jaw — are similar.
- The cheeks look long and the sides are straight.
- The difference with oval is proportion: oblong is longer and less tapered.
Hairstyles
- Fringes and horizontal volume shorten the face visually.
- Height on top adds to the length you're trying to reduce.
- Layers around the temples widen the silhouette.
Glasses
- Tall, wide frames — aviators, big squares, deep lenses — break the length.
- Small, narrow frames make the face look even longer.
Beard and facial hair
A full beard widens the lower face. Keep the chin short so the beard doesn't extend the length further.
